Junior
The Junior men’s race has seen some of the world’s leading young cyclists compete including Josh Tarling, Sam Watson and former World Champion Will Tidball.
Held initially in 2014, the first two editions of the Junior men’s race were run starting and finishing in Oakham on the same day as the International race.
With the inception of the Women’s CiCLE Classic in 2016, the extended logistics of three races in one day became an obstacle too great to manage.
The decision was therefore taken that the Junior men’s race be moved to a start and finish in Melton Mowbray alongside the Women’s race and held on another day of the year. Various dates in June and July have seen the two races held in their early days, but in recent years a date in late March has been chosen presenting and emphasising the Spring classic credentials of the events.
This formula also enables the two races to also use significant sections of the route made famous by the CiCLE Classic International race.
With at least two of our Junior race winners now riding at World Tour teams, the event can rightly be proud of assisting in their pathway to successful careers within the sport.
Each edition of the Junior race has to date formed part of the annual British Cycling National Junior Road race series of counting events.
The overall distance of each edition of the Junior race is 104 kms.
